What this course is about....

What to eat, when to eat and how to eat can be so confusing.

Do we eat red meat, dairy, must we eat organic, should we eat a paleo diet, vegetarian, vegan?

We are surrounded by decades of diet culture behaviours that are supported and encouraged by the Wellness Industry who benefit from our insecurities and beliefs that we need them and their products.

If dieting and exercise were the answer to all our questions, why with all the technology and research are we not healthier and happier?  Why are we suffering with more disease and less satisfaction?

The missing piece is not what but who we are as eaters

What we eat is only one piece of the puzzle.

How we think, what we feel and believe about ourselves, our bodies, food and eating all play a role.

We need food as much as we need air,

Food and eating are as important as breathing, yet we are growing up in a world where these have become so commercial, confusing and often something we fear.

Food is a necessity for our survival yet it can cause many challenges both psychologically and physically

Food not only keeps us alive but can help us to thrive.

So many people today have grown up and struggle with some kind of fear of food and eating

The degree to which this may impact each person will vary

Our hope is to help create awareness and hopefully reduce the risk of the destructive and debilitating behaviours of having a negative relationship with food, eating and our bodies.

Below are suggestions of someone struggling with their relationship with food and eating;

  • Restriction  - Any kind of restriction or dieting
  • Rigid rules about food and or eating - this maybe eating only at certain times, eating or not eating certain foods, fasting, eating only ‘healthy or clean’
  • Eliminating or reducing major food groups - such as; carbohydrates, proteins and or fats
  • Skipping meals - missing regular meals
  • Counting or measuring - any form of counting calories or measuring food.
  • Feelings of guilt / shame  - Any thoughts or behaviours around food and eating that may cause these.
  • Eating disorders - any kind of disordered eating.
  • Obsessive behaviours - any obsessive behaviours where the motive is to change one’s body or shape in any way; such as obsession with exercise and or healthy / clean eating or obsession with supplements.
  • IBS or other digestive issues - often caused by stressed and/ or rushed eating.
  • Ongoing struggles with immunity, health and energy.

Science is amazing and has allowed us to find out so much, but not all science is accurate and not all information is true.  We are all unique and there is no one diet or fitness program that works for everyone.  What is good for one, maybe bad for another. What works today, may not work tomorrow. We are each our own mini science experiments and we need to learn to trust our own ‘body wisdom’

Confronting our eating and body challenges is not a simple one-step process and there is NO ONE SIZE Fits all approach

A 'diet culture' mindset strongly influences our behaviour and wellbeing and this can have negative effects both mentally and physically.

This course is to help inform and create awareness of our society, culture and our own perceptions around food, eating and our bodies.  The information and activities are designed to help you understand some of these misconceptions and help you to understand your own beliefs and perceptions around your relationship with food and eating and the impact these may have on you mentally and physically and your life now and in the future
